Amgen will present data from four Phase 2 trials of AMG 145, an investigational fully human monoclonal antibody directed against PCSK9, a protein that reduces the liver's ability to remove low density lipoprotein cholesterol, or "bad" cholesterol from the blood, at the upcoming American Heart Association Scientific Sessions 2012.
Early, intensive therapy with a biotechnologically produced medication can provide significantly faster pain relief for patients with rheumatic joint inflammation. Damage to joints can also be reduced when the medication is applied right at the beginning of the illness.
More than 600 employees from the Premier healthcare alliance donated over 2,400 hours of community service on March 31 at 18 locations across the Charlotte region.
Neuronal Ceroid Liposfuscinosis (NCL), often referred to as Batten disease, is a rare and fatal neurodegenerative disorder that afflicts infants and young children. NCL is caused by a deficiency of a lysosomal enzyme, and is a relatively rare disease, affecting an estimated 2 to 4 of every 100,000 babies born in the U.S. Although NCLs are classified as rare diseases, they often affect more than one child in families that carry the defective gene, and tragically, are always fatal.
