Researchers from Louisiana State University in the U.S. are suggesting that the addition of antibiotics to standard drug therapy for multiple sclerosis, may slow down the progress of the disease.
Young women with early-stage breast cancer have similar survival rates with a lumpectomy and radiation treatment, known as breast-conservation therapy, as with mastectomy, a new study conducted at the University of Maryland has found. The results of the analysis of nearly 15,000 patients listed in a nationwide cancer registry will be presented at the 2011 Breast Cancer Symposium to be held Sept. 8-11 in San Francisco.
Par Pharmaceutical Companies, Inc. today announced that its generic division, Par Pharmaceutical, has entered into an exclusive licensing agreement with Glenmark Generics Limited and Glenmark Generics Inc., USA to market ezetimibe 10 mg tablets, the generic version of Merck & Co. Inc.'s Zetia, in the U.S. Zetia is a cholesterol modifying agent with annual U.S. sales of approximately $1.4 billion, according to IMS Health data.
A feature article in the Ugandan Observer examines a recent agreement signed by the U.S. and Ugandan governments "to drum up more support for maternal and reproductive health in Uganda." U.S. Global Health Initiative (GHI) Executive Director Lois Quam spoke at the signing, saying, "Investment in health in Uganda is one of the largest we make anywhere else in the world. Government must do more.
Aetna announced that it has reached agreement on a three-year contract extension with WakeMed Health & Hospitals. The agreement takes effect May 1.
