Health care professionals who provide contraceptive services outside of general practice are unlikely to discuss long-acting reversible contraception such as intrauterine devices (IUDs) or implants for young women without children - despite their proven safety, effectiveness and convenience.
A large study from Japan found that cancer patients who died at home tended to live longer than those who died in hospitals. Published early online in CANCER, a peer-reviewed journal of the American Cancer Society, the findings suggest that oncologists should not hesitate to refer patients for home-based palliative care simply because less medical treatment may be provided.
According to a study published this week in the September/October 2011 issue of the American Journal of Health Promotion, people with consistently high health care costs experienced a 28 percent cumulative decrease in physician fees after an average of five years practicing the stress-reducing Transcendental Meditation technique compared with their baseline.
Gregory Herbert is a 12-year-old boy. He fell ill suddenly at the age of 10. Several organs were attacked, including his eyes, brain, kidneys and heart, by a genetic mitochondrial disease that is rather unknown to doctors. Thanks to the Children's Wish Foundation, Gregory will experience his fondest wish and participate in the Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament this February!
Adults are not the only ones who should focus on good heart health. One University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) primary care physician said starting heart-healthy habits at a young age can help build a future free from cardiovascular disease.
