National Institutes of Health-funded scientists have determined the genome sequences of a dozen strains of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria known to be resistant to vancomycin, an antibiotic of last resort. The researchers demonstrated -that resistance arose independently in each strain, and identified shared features among the strains that may have helped them acquire vancomycin resistance and evade human immune defenses.
In a new study, a collaboration of researchers from various institutes described the natural history of SARS-CoV-2 testing, which includes Ct values among patients who had tested positive multiple times, prior to the emergence of VOCs in the vaccine roll-out. In addition, the authors analyze the timescale of positivity and clinical features of the population of patients with prolonged SARS-CoV-2 positivity.
The paper looks at repurposed drugs that might demonstrate efficacy against COVID-19, and if they could be manufactured profitably at very low costs to ensure affordable access to vital treatments for COVID-19 at low prices globally.
Although being popular is a primary goal for many teenagers-and their parents-a new study published in the May/June 2005 issue of the journal Child Development finds that popularity itself has a downside.
