HeartWare International, Inc. announced today its intention to offer, subject to market and other conditions, $100 million principal amount of convertible senior notes due 2017 (the "notes") pursuant to an effective shelf registration statement filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission ("SEC") today. HeartWare also intends to grant the underwriters an option to purchase up to an additional $15 million principal amount of notes to cover over-allotments, if any.
In a groundbreaking new study led by University of Minnesota biomedical engineers, artificial blood vessels bioengineered in the lab and implanted in young lambs are capable of growth within the recipient.
Some people find quinine to be bitter while others can drink it like water. Now, scientists from the Monell Center and collaborators report that individual differences in how people experience quinine's bitterness are related to underlying differences in their genes.The findings, published online in the journal Human Molecular Genetics, demonstrate that genetic variation in regions of DNA that encode bitter taste receptors predicts a person's perception of bitterness from quinine.
For the first time, researchers have determined that a brief, simple number naming test can differentiate between cognitively healthy elderly individuals and cognitively impaired people with Alzheimer's disease (AD), including those with mild cognitive impairment (MCI), as well as those with AD dementia.
With the unemployment rate now shockingly high, and perhaps moving higher, a national small business leader warned the U.S. House that advancing the Pelosi health-care bill will lead to further job loss and a deterioration of the small business sector if enacted. According to Small Business & Entrepreneurship Council (SBE Council) President & CEO Karen Kerrigan, the economic rebound that Americans are desperately looking for will not happen with job-killing tax hikes and mandates like those included in H.R. 3962.
