John Wiley & Sons, Inc., recently announced a collaboration with the American Dental Association (ADA) to publish the latest book in their "Practical Guide Series," The ADA Practical Guide to Patients with Medical Conditions.
Three studies coming out of the American Epilepsy Society's 67th Annual Meeting in Washington DC expose the high prevalence of epilepsy and other neurological disorders in US Veterans who served in Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation New Dawn. The research conducted from these studies indicate that veterans are at a particularly high risk for traumatic brain injury, post traumatic stress disorder, psychological non-epileptic seizures and epileptic seizure diagnoses.
Two studies from the Get With The Guidelines–Stroke initiative show that the emergency medical services often fail to notify hospitals of an incoming stroke patient, despite the clear positive effect on acute stroke treatment.
Bryce Carey, an MIT graduate student working in the lab of Whitehead Member Rudolf Jaenisch, spearheaded the effort by joining in tandem the four reprogramming genes through the use of bits of DNA that code for polymers known as 2A peptides. Working with others in the lab, he then manufactured a so-called polycistronic virus capable of expressing all four reprogramming genes once it is inserted into the genomes of mature mouse and human cells.
