Obesity may put African-Americans who have survived one stroke at risk for a second stroke by increasing their risk of hypertension (high blood pressure), diabetes and high cholesterol, according to an article in the March issue of Archives of Neurology, one of the JAMA/Archives journals.
Rare but devastating, eye cancer can strike anyone at any time and treating it often requires radiation that leaves half of all patients partially blind.But a new technique developed by Scott Oliver, MD, assistant professor at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, may change all that.
The study "Oxidative Stress is an Important Component of Airway Inflammation in Mice Exposed to Cigarette Smoke or Lipopolysaccharide" investigates the inflammatory responses in oxidative stress-deficient mice exposed to cigarette smoke.
Quality of life in younger patients treated for breast cancer is seriously compromised and these women suffer from severe psychological distress, infertility, premature menopause, a decrease in physical activity and weight gain, according to a study by researchers at UCLA's Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center.
