Heavy cigarette smokers with at least a 20 pack-year smoking history can reduce their risk of cardiovascular disease by 39% within five years if they quit, according to a study published today in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
Phase I/II clinical trial data support the use of bosutinib as second- or third-line tyrosine kinase inhibitor therapy in Japanese patients with Philadelphia chromosome-positive chronic myeloid leukaemia.
Our research uses mathematical modelling to quantify calorie intake as children grow at a healthy rate as well as when they develop obesity. We showed that the development of childhood obesity required a much greater increase in calories than previously thought since prior estimates did not properly account for metabolic changes as children grow.
Building on the success of recent Hopkins research showing obese participants were able to lose significant weight and keep it off for two years using telephone coaching and a specially designed website, Johns Hopkins Medicine is collaborating with Healthways to help bring the innovative weight-loss program to many more who could benefit from it.
