Testing the safety of chemicals ranging from pesticides to household cleaners will benefit from new technologies and a plan for collaboration, according to federal scientists from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), who today announced a new toxicity testing agreement.
Current research at Malmö University's Faculty of Odontology in Sweden shows that cancer and other serious illnesses leave traces of their presence in patients' saliva. In the future, it may be possible to detect serious illnesses in their early stages with the help of a simple saliva test.
Researchers at the Joslin Diabetes Center have identified a gene that is responsible for the division and movement of marrow-derived, blood-forming stem cells, a finding that could have major implications for the future of bone marrow and blood cell transplantation.
Suneva Medical, a privately-held aesthetic medical device company, provided a research grant to support an investigator-sponsored research study to evaluate the degree of correction and patient satisfaction after injection of atrophic scars with Artefill. The data was presented by Dr. James Spencer, the grant recipient and study investigator, in a poster session at the 2010 Orlando Dermatology Conference taking place in Orlando, Florida January 15-18th.
