An illuminating study compares the willingness of stage IV cancer patients, and their caregivers; to pay to extend their lives by one year against that of other end-of-life improvements.
A preclinical study with mice has shown that Gabapentin, a drug that is commonly used in nerve pain could be useful for patients with spinal cord injury. Use of the drug showed improvement in upper limb function among the mice models of spinal cord injury, wrote the researchers. The study titled, "Gabapentinoid treatment promotes corticospinal plasticity and regeneration following murine spinal cord injury," was published this week in the latest issue of the Journal of Clinical Investigation.
The University of Kentucky recently received $3 million from the National Institute on Drug Abuse and National Institute on General Medical Sciences to fund new opioid-related research in the criminal justice system.
Northwest Biotherapeutics, a biotechnology company developing DCVax-L personalized immune therapies for solid tumor cancers, today announced that its Phase III clinical trial with DCVax-L for brain cancer has been initiated at King's College Hospital in the UK.
