These cells, called B lymphocytes, intentionally mutate their own DNA to ward off invaders they have never seen before.
New research presented at this year's Euroanaesthesia meeting in Stockholm shows that having parents present during the induction of their child's anaesthesia improves the quality of that anaesthesia. The study is by Dr Alicia S-nchez, Department of Anaesthesiology, Hospital de Sagunto, Spain, and colleagues.
A research team has tested the utility of the short version of WHO-DAS II, a tool to assess within five minutes disability in patients with depression, "which in the case of primary care is even more practicable than the long version of the instrument." In Spain, more than 10% of the population suffer from severe depression.
Having a high stress job may be linked to a higher risk of stroke, according to an analysis of several studies. The meta-analysis is published in the October 14, 2015, online issue of Neurology, the medical journal of the American Academy of Neurology.
Having a resting heart rate of 75 beats per minute (bpm) during middle-age may double the risk for early death, according to new research.
