Celera Corporation today announced the publication of data reporting that elderly (over age 70) carriers of the KIF6 gene variant with prior vascular disease received significant benefit from pravastatin (Pravachol®) therapy. Previous research has shown that a variant of the KIF6 gene, a member of the molecular motor protein kinesin family, is associated with up to a 55% increased risk of primary and recurrent coronary heart disease (CHD) events in the placebo arms of the clinical trials, and that this increased risk is virtually eliminated with statin therapy.
EpiCept Corporation announced today that the Company's common stock has been included on a list of preliminary additions to the Russell Microcap Index posted by Russell Investments on June 11, 2010 on www.russell.com. These changes are expected to go into effect after the close of trading on Friday, June 25, 2010.
Abbott today announced it has received regulatory clearance in the United States and approval in Japan for its TREK and MINI-TREK Coronary Dilatation Catheters for the treatment of coronary artery disease. The TREK system is used in angioplasty procedures and is designed to enable interventional cardiologists to open patients' narrowed coronary arteries. The TREK system received CE Mark and was launched in Europe in May 2010.
