For patients undergoing shoulder joint replacement surgery (arthroplasty), higher body mass index is linked to increased complications- including the need for "revision" surgery, reports a study in the June 7 issue of The Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery.
Targeted alpha therapy has the potential to selectively eliminate HIV infected cells from the central nervous system, according to a recent study co-authored by the JRC. The study shows that a specific human antibody labelled with the alpha emitter bismuth-213 can penetrate the blood brain barrier and selectively target and destroy HIV-infected cells while sparing non-infected healthy cells.
The latest version of a bionic pancreas device has been successfully tested in two five-day clinical trials - one in adults, the other in adolescents - that imposed minimal restrictions on patient activities.
