There have been some new changes to the visitor guidelines at Riverside Medical Center. With the recent upswing in the number of people infected with the H1N1 virus, the southern Chicago suburbs healthcare provider has decided that there should be extra precautions put in place to protect patients, visitors and staff during this influenza outbreak.

FAU researchers find mechanism that promotes metastasis and causes tumours to resist treatment

Fast metastasis and resistance to treatment are characteristic of aggressive types of cancer such as pancreatic cancer and certain kinds of breast cancer. They are also the main causes of cancer-related death, as there is currently no specific treatment available that is able to stop tumours spreading throughout the whole body. Researchers at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg have recently made a discovery that could change this.

Direct-to-consumer ‘low-T' medication advertising increases prescriptions but may not improve health

Direct-to-consumer advertising for drugs to treat testosterone deficiency - or "low T" - increases prescriptions to men for hormone-replacement therapies but may not improve their health, UC Davis physician Richard Kravitz said in an editorial published in the March 21 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association.

In addition, 7 million adults age 65 and over also had problems paying medical bills, for a total of 79 million adults with medical bill problems or medical debt.
