Eating breakfast before exercise may "prime" the body to burn carbohydrates during exercise and more rapidly digest food after working out, University of Bath researchers have found.
The cholesterol drug alirocumab reduced low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol by 35.6% compared to placebo in adult patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HoFH), according to a phase three clinical trial presented at the American College of Cardiology's Annual Scientific Session Together with World Congress of Cardiology.
Cosmetic surgery has always been fraught with unrealistic demands and sometimes legal action in cases of dissatisfactory results. Tens of thousands of cosmetic surgeries are performed each year and the numbers are climbing fast. A new study shows that Australian women who volunteer for cosmetic surgeries often have such unrealistic expectations for the outcomes of the surgeries.
Federal investigators, working undercover for the Government Accountability Office, said they had been able to obtain subsidized health insurance under the health law using fictitious identities and false documents. The administration said it was working on remedying the verification problems.
Low dose aspirin is recommended by clinicians as a preventive measure for patients who have already had a heart attack or stroke, but the risk of taking low-dose aspirin to prevent or delay a first heart attack or stroke is less clear, as the benefit for reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) must be balanced with the increased risk of gastrointestinal or other bleeding.
