As Western countries gear up for a second wave of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, a new study shows that this time around, the worst-hit in terms of case numbers is the young adult age group, between 18 and 29 years. This finding could be crucial in framing dynamic public health measures, which will contain and help limit rising cases.
MIT researchers have developed a wireless, private way to monitor a person's sleep postures - whether snoozing on their back, stomach, or sides - using reflected radio signals from a small device mounted on a bedroom wall.
After doing specific training for 12 weeks, people over the age of 90 improved their strength, power and muscle mass. This was reflected in an increase in their walking speed, a greater capacity to get out of their chairs, an improvement in their balance, a significant reduction in the incidence of falls and a significant improvement in muscle power and mass in the lower limbs.
New research released in the December 2010 supplement to the American Journal of Preventive Medicine (AJPM) concludes that Minnesota's statewide smoke-free law has not adversely affected bar and restaurant employment. The research adds to the growing body of evidence on the Freedom to Breathe Act's success and offers the first analysis of independent data from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development.
An international study coordinated by the Research Group for Urban Nature and Biosystems Engineering (NATURIB) from the University of Seville's Escuela Técnica Superior of Agricultural Engineering emphasizes that having plants at home had a positive influence on the psychological well-being of the dwelling's inhabitants during COVID-19 lockdown.
