A collaborative team of researchers spearheaded by Dennis Carson M.D., professor of medicine and director of the Rebecca and John Moores UCSD Cancer Center at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) has identified a potent new anti-cancer drug isolated from a toxic blue-green algae found in the South Pacific.
At the heart of brain diseases such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Alzheimer's disease, and Parkinson's disease is protein misfolding, in which distorted proteins are unable to perform their normal functions. At present, there is no known way to reverse protein misfolding.
Congressional Republicans are releasing two health care reform proposals - one from conservatives and one from moderates - as alternatives to plans by Democrats, CQ Today reports (Wayne, CQ Today, 5/19).
A novel scoring system based on the "best" elements of four existing systems can successfully differentiate injuries of patients with complex facial fractures, improving discrimination between severe injuries, report UK researchers.
