In this post in the Center for Strategic & International Studies' (CSIS) "Smart Global Health" blog, Rhonda Zygocki, executive vice president of policy and planning at Chevron, responds to questions about Chevron's presence at the XIX International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2012) in Washington, D.C., last week, writing that such questions "give me an opportunity to talk about the critical role everyone plays in the global fight against this epidemic, including Chevron, as well as the ways collaborative partnerships will lead to the elimination of AIDS."
Ana Ripoll, Rector of Universitat Aut-noma de Barcelona (UAB), and Pedro Barato, President of "Organizaci-n Interprofesional del Aceite de Oliva Espa-ol", signed a research agreement to carry out an in depth study on how the intake of olive oil can work towards preventing and fighting against breast cancer.
The debate over what to do about Medicare payments to doctors continues. Physicans have been lobbying "to repeal the Sustainable Growth Rate formula, which triggers automatic Medicare payment cuts if spending rises above a certain level," CongressDaily reports. Meara, PhD, and others from Dartmouth and the University of Michigan found that implementation of pilot accountable care organizations (ACOs) did not limit spending on discretionary or non-discretionary cardiovascular treatment for patients.
