The world's first inclined beam treatment room is open and treating patients at the ProCure Proton Therapy Center in Oklahoma City. The third of four treatment rooms at the Oklahoma Center is treating a wide range of tumors with proton therapy, an important alternative to X-ray radiation in treating cancer.
Medicare uses inaccurate, unreliable data to pay doctors and hospitals, the National Academy of Sciences said Wednesday. Although Medicare is a national program, it adjusts payments to health care providers to reflect regional differences in wages, rent and other costs.
It's become common for patients in the intensive care unit (ICU), both children and adults, to receive probiotics. Often, they are started at home to counteract diarrhea caused by antibiotics.
