Studies on Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia have long focused on what's happening inside the brain. Now an international research team studying Alzheimer's and mild cognitive impairment is reporting potentially significant findings on a vascular abnormality outside the brain.
Meningiomas are the most common benign intracranial tumors, and in individuals ages 35 and older, the most common type of brain tumor diagnosed. They most often occur in people between the ages of 40 and 70.
A new study finds that a chemical found in the body is capable of promoting weight loss, improving insulin resistance and reversing diabetes in an animal model.
At least one in ten adults over the age of 65 suffers from Mild Cognitive Impairment, or MCI. This condition, a state between the normal decline in cognition associated with aging and the more precipitous drop caused by a deadly dementia like Alzheimer's disease, has only recently begun to be studied; first identified by the Mayo Clinic in 1999, it was only given an official diagnostic code in late 2006.
