Scientists from A*STAR's Singapore Immunology Network have discovered a new defense mechanism that the immune system utilises to combat infections. The team's discovery of how a novel protein unexpectedly activates an immune response shows how this mechanism can also be used to get rid of tumour cells.
Mediware Information Systems, Inc. announced today that Virginia Blood Services (VBS) has licensed the company's LifeTrak® blood donor management software to enhance the automation of data management capabilities. The addition of LifeTrak will enable the blood center to more efficiently manage thousands of donor records, including the complex donor eligibility requirements that blood centers are required to calculate.
A strain of Escherichia coli found in retail chicken and turkey products may cause a wide range of infections in people, according to a study published today in the American Society for Microbiology's open access journal mBio.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently released new estimates that one in every 110 children (1 in 70 boys) is diagnosed with autism.
