At the end of July, Greenwich became the only hospital in New York City, Westchester and Fairfield counties to offer Xofigo, commonly referred to as Radium 223, a new radiation oncology therapy that is giving renewed hope to patients with stage 4 hormone-refractory prostate cancer.
Sarcopenia, the progressive loss of muscle mass and associated muscle weakness during aging, affects the functional capacity and general health in adult people radically and renders frail elders susceptible to serious injury from sudden falls and fractures.
A drought and "security crisis as a result of political conflicts, civil war and anarchy" in Somalia are to blame for the famine recently declared by the U.N., but "[t]he international community is also to blame for responding too slowly and neglecting its responsibilities in this preventable disaster," a Lancet editorial says.
Scientists at The Methodist Hospital Research Institute in Houston received a research grant from the Cancer Prevention Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) today to develop the first molecular image guided system to diagnose and treat small-cell peripheral lung cancer in one sitting.
