"Five Myths About the HIV Epidemic in Asia," PLoS Medicine: Peter Godwin, senior adviser at the National Centre for HIV/AIDS, Dermatology and STDs in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, and colleagues in the article discuss five "commonly held" myths regarding HIV/AIDS in Asian countries.
Researchers from major universities in the U.S. have developed specific tests to identify cancer biomarkers in patients with dermatomyositis-a systemic inflammatory disease associated with increased risk of malignancy.
It's well-known that obesity, diabetes and chronic inflammation are major risk factors for cancer. But just how cancer evolves in people with these diseases - and why a healthy diet and exercising regularly can help prevent it - is poorly understood.
The novel cardiac biomarker ST2 was highlighted in a presentation at last month's 2011 Heart Failure Congress of the European Society of Cardiology in Gothenburg, Sweden. As this study and others have demonstrated, a patient's ST2 level can help a physician better predict prognosis in ambulatory, chronic heart failure patients, which can allow physicians to more appropriately tailor care.
Researchers at Yale School of Medicine are able to detect deficits in social attention in infants as young as six months of age who later develop Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD).
