What Medicare would pay for and where a radiation oncologist practiced were two factors that strongly influenced the choice of intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) for treating breast cancer, according to an article published April 29 online in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute. The use of IMRT and the cost of radiation therapy increased sharply over the period of the study.
Quantel SA (Euronext: QUA), a leading manufacturer of solid state lasers, announced today that it has entered into a Distribution Agreement with National Biological, a leading researcher and developer of light-based systems for medical and cosmetic treatments, for Quantel's 308 Excimer System for monochromatic UVB treatment of psoriasis and vitiligo in the United States.
"We found a significant relationship between bacterial infections and acute asthma attacks - above and beyond the expected relationship between viral infections and attacks," says Hans Bisgaard, a professor of paediatrics at the DPAC.
In the fight against "superbugs," scientists have discovered a class of agents that can make some of the most notorious strains vulnerable to the same antibiotics that they once handily shrugged off. The report on the promising agents called metallopolymers appears in the Journal of the American Chemical Society.
