Precision BioSciences and Agrivida revealed today that they have entered into a trait development collaboration based on precise gene modifications made possible by Precision's Directed Nuclease Editor (DNE) Technology.
Researchers have uncovered a new culprit behind the brain injury suffered by stroke victims. Their new study, published in the Sept. 17 issue of Cell, links brain cell damage to a rise in brain acidity following the oxygen depletion, or ischemia, characteristic of stroke.
For college students, the campus dining hall offers a tantalizing feast: ice-cream sundaes every night, thirty varieties of cereal and a limitless supply of french fries."It's like a smorgasborg on a cruise ship," said Cynthia Bulik, PhD, director of the Eating Disorders Program at the UNC School of Medicine. All-you-can-eat dining halls, along with changes in exercise habits, have been blamed for the "freshman 15," in which first-year students gain weight.
"In addition, blacks tended to desire the body size they considered healthy while whites wanted a body size smaller than they thought healthy," says Mara S. Aruguete, professor of psychology at Stephens College, a women's college, in Columbia, MO.
People who lose weight and keep it off can stabilize or even improve their cardiometabolic risk factors compared to people who regain weight, finds a new study led by researchers from the Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts.
