It's well known that smoking cigarettes increases risk for a host of serious health problems from cancer to heart disease. Now a new study from Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City looks at how they do their dirty work by contributing to atherosclerosis, or hardening of the arteries. The evidence points to nicotine, the addictive chemical in cigarettes.

Adaptimmune Therapeutics plc, a clinical stage biopharmaceutical company focused on the use of TCR engineered T-cell therapy to treat cancer, today announced a poster presentation of data on its lead clinical program, an affinity enhanced T-cell receptor (TCR) therapeutic targeting the NY-ESO-1 cancer antigen, in both solid and hematologic cancers.

The Wellcome Trust, one of the world's largest medical charities, has awarded £8.1 million over 5 years to a team of six scientists at the University of Dundee to help discover new drugs to treat some of the world's most neglected tropical diseases.
