Data published in the March issue of the Annals of Surgery show that investigational use of sacral nerve stimulation with Medtronic InterStim® Therapy reduces fecal incontinent episodes and increases quality of life in patients with the condition. The 120-patient, multi-center study - the largest trial of its kind in the world and the first such trial in North America - examined the efficacy of InterStim Therapy in patients with chronic fecal incontinence who had failed or were not candidates for more conservative treatments.
Speakers at the recent REG 2016 Summit highlighted the need for more research into the nature and effectiveness of treatment for COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) in a real-world environment.
According to a study recently accepted for publication by Environmental Health Perspectives, researchers found no correlation between specific human health effects in "watermen" (commercial fishermen) and low-level exposure to the dinoflagellate Pfiesteria in areas of the Chesapeake Bay.
Listeria is a dreaded bacterium that can be found in both unprocessed and processed foods. Over the last few weeks, 28 persons in Denmark have been infected with Listeria from processed food, sold in supermarkets. 13 have died.
