People with hemophilia have prolonged abnormal bleeding as a result of trauma. Hemophilia A, also called factor VIII (FVIII) deficiency, is the most common form of the genetic disorder caused by missing or defective blood clotting protein called factor VIII.
Patients with castration-resistant prostate cancer had limited side effects and in many cases a drop in prostate-specific antigen expression with galeterone (TOK-001), a small-molecule oral drug, according to phase I data presented at the AACR Annual Meeting 2012, held here March 31 - April 4.
Dr Karen Cullen at Sydney University's Institute for Biomedical Research is part of a collaborative team which has identified a key component in the progression of Alzheimer's disease, a finding which may produce the world's first effective treatment to combat the debilitating effects of the disease.
