On November 6, 2013, the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Landstuhl, Germany, received laboratory accreditation with exemplary status through the American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine's Electrodiagnostic Laboratory Accreditation Program. While the AANEM has accredited 156 electrodiagnostic laboratories in the United States since its 2011 launch, the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center is the first EDX laboratory outside of the country to receive accreditation.
The H1N1 virus was new, and most of the cases occurred among young people. Health professionals and scientists weren't sure at the onset what the world would encounter with the virus.
A team of Massachusetts General Hospital investigators has identified factors that may increase the risk of drug overdose in adolescents and young adults. In their report published online in the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry, the researchers describe finding that more than a quarter of those seeking treatment at Addiction Recovery Management Service, an MGH-based outpatient substance-use-disorder treatment program for youth ages 14 to 26, had a history of at least one overdose.
For individuals carrying a genetic mutation that causes Alzheimer's disease, engaging in at least 2.5 hours of physical activity per week may have beneficial effects on markers of Alzheimer's disease brain changes and may delay cognitive decline, according to a new study available online by Alzheimer's & Dementia: The Journal of the Alzheimer's Association as an article in press, corrected proof.
