Scientists have been trying for years now to understand what causes overweight and obesity in some but not in others. Now researchers at the Monash University's Biomedicine Discovery Institute seem to have solved the puzzle that has been baffling them all – a so called "fat switch" in the brain that regulates weight gain. From Texas to Connecticut, members of Congress and their challengers are pressing their views on the federal health program for seniors.
Respiratory movement during radiotherapy makes it difficult to hit the right treatment target and this in turn can lead to an under-dose of radiation to the tumour, or a potentially toxic over-dose to the surrounding healthy tissue. MicroDose Therapeutx Inc. today announced that it has acquired a portfolio of compounds for the potential treatment of chronic constipation, irritable bowel syndrome with constipation (IBS-C) and other diseases, from Epix Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (EPIX) (Lexington, MA).
Researchers at The Feinstein Institute for Medical Research have discovered that tanshinones, which come from the plant Danshen and are highly valued in Chinese traditional medicine, protect against the life-threatening condition sepsis. The findings are published in the December issue of Biochemical Pharmacology.
