On 11 July 2017, Epigem celebrated the completion of its research into Aflatoxin detection in milk, as part of the EU-funded SYMPHONY project. At the same time, the company announced that it has filed a patent based on this work.
Results from the LESSON I trial presented today provide preliminary evidence for the therapeutic benefit of the newer generation everolimus-eluting stent over the previous gold standard, the early generation sirolimus-eluting stent. Moreover, LESSON I provides evidence that the formation of blood clots (stent thrombosis) - the principal shortcoming of early generation drug-eluting stents - may be diminished with the newer generation everolimus-eluting stent.
The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center will establish the nation's first center dedicated to treating those with heart failure and arrhythmia with gifts totaling $18 million from Bob and Corrine Frick.
The JC polyomavirus is clearly opportunistic. It infects half the population but lethally destroys brain tissue only in immunocompromised patients - and it may be outright sneaky, too. Even as a new research paper allays fears that common mutant forms of the virus are the ones directly responsible for the disease's main attack, that same finding raises new questions about what the mutants are doing instead.
