Results from clinical trials conducted in Tanzania show that a new vaccine against tuberculosis, Mycobacterium vaccae (MV), is effective in preventing tuberculosis in people with HIV infection. Findings from the trials, which were conducted by investigators from Dartmouth Medical School in the United States, will be published in the next issue of AIDS, the leading journal in the field of HIV and AIDS research. Contrary to a widely-held assumption about heterosexual transmission of HIV, the normal mucosal lining of the female genital tract is not a foolproof barrier to viral penetration, scientists at the Northwestern University School of Medicine in Chicago report at the American Society for Cell Biology (ASCB) 48th Annual Meeting, Dec. 13-17, 2008 in San Francisco.
Researchers at Temple University School of Medicine have been awarded a $7.4 million, five-year grant from the National Institute on Drug Abuse to determine how cocaine and HIV-1 interact to cause brain impairment in patients infected with the human immunodeficiency virus.
Invetech, a leader in instrument development, custom automation, and contract manufacturing, and Vaxxas, a biotechnology start-up and developer of the Nanopatch™ needle-free drug delivery technology, have been named winners of the 2015 Good Design Award for development of the Nanopatch Jet Coating Instrument, an advanced technology platform to support needle-free dermal drug delivery research and product development. The award was announced last evening at the Good Design Awards Gala Night held in Sydney, Australia.
