Using the OncoArray genotyping platform developed by multiple cancer consortia, a recent large aggregated genomewide association study identifies new susceptibility loci for lung cancer, the leading cause of cancer mortality worldwide.
In a study to be presented on Feb. 5 in an oral concurrent session at 1:15 p.m. EST, at the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine's annual meeting, The Pregnancy Meeting, in Atlanta, researchers will present findings from a study titled, T-follicular helper (Thf) cell expansion varies by trimester after influenza vaccination in pregnancy.
Intravenous patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) allows patients to control their own pain medication, but a new study published in the December 2008 issue of The Joint Commission Journal on Quality and Patient Safety shows that errors related to this practice are four times more likely to result in patient harm than errors that occur with other medications.
The American College of Surgeons today announced a new initiative to improve outcomes for patients requiring complex wound management. ACS will release a new structured teaching and verification program that utilizes engaging media and self-assessment checklists to educate surgical patients and their families about delivering self-care for wound conditions.
The Epilepsy Foundation Northwest (EFNW) announced the addition of Alaska to its affiliate, making it the largest territory in the nation for the Epilepsy Foundation organization. Programs and services provided by EFNW for people living with epilepsy and their families will now officially include Alaska.
