The Network Board of Directors for Alegent Creighton Health/Catholic Health Initiatives (CHI) voted today to move forward with creating a new academic medical center on the Bergan Mercy Medical Center campus, complete with a Level One trauma program. The move will take two to three years and require an investment of $145-$157 million.
In a study that could lead to new ways to prevent infection by human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and similar organisms, Purdue University researchers have been able to genetically modify a plant to halt reproduction of a related virus.
The recent outbreak of meningitis in the US-and the subsequent deaths of 15 individuals-has renewed scrutiny on the contemporary practice of pharmacy compounding. The risks to patients, and associated liability risk to prescribing physicians, largely outweigh the benefits when the practice goes beyond the traditional, extemporaneous role, according to Sarah Sellers from q-Vigilance LLC and Wulf Utian from Case Western Reserve University in the US. Sellers and Utian's opinion piece appears online in the journal Drugs, published by Adis.
Merge Healthcare, a leading Health IT solutions provider, announced today that it was selected by Cato Research Ltd. to provide the proprietary etrials EDC solution through Merge's technology transfer program. This new agreement expands Merge's partnership with CATO to provide additional technology for clinical trials management, as well as extending the relationship for an additional five years.
