Most electronic medical records (EMRs) today require a standard username and password, leaving many physician's offices – often unknowingly – open to security threats and data breaches. In an effort to address growing physician concerns around patient data protection, drchrono added a new layer of security to its cloud-based EMR platform which offers physicians extra protection around patient data accessed through mobile and tablet devices such as iPads and iPhones.
The recent outbreak of E. coli infection in Germany has put a potentially fatal bacterium back on everyone's radar screen. While some researchers are looking for a better way to treat the disease, professor Debora Foster of the Department of Chemistry and Biology at Ryerson University is taking a different approach.
Masimo (Nasdaq: MASI), the inventor of Pulse CO-Oximetry(TM) and Measure-Through Motion and Low-Perfusion pulse oximetry, and GS Elektromedizinische Gerate G. Stemple GmbH, a German developer and manufacturer of innovative medical equipment for the Emergency Medical Services (EMS), today jointly announced a worldwide technology licensing agreement to integrate Masimo Rainbow SET Pulse CO-Oximetry into corpuls(R) patient monitoring modules. The agreement enables GS GmbH to expand the vital signs and noninvasive measurement capabilities of its defibrillators and patient monitoring systems to help EMS professionals detect and treat life-threatening conditions earlier.
DNA sequencing to detect genetic mutations can aid in the diagnosis and selection of treatment for cancer. Current methods of testing DNA samples, Sanger sequencing and pyrosequencing, occasionally produce complex results that can be difficult or impossible to interpret. Scientists at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine have developed a free software program, Pyromaker, that can more accurately identify such complex genetic mutations.
