Researchers from Mount Sinai School of Medicine have found that hospitalized patients with dysphagia, or difficulty swallowing, averaged a 40 percent longer hospital stay than patients without the condition. They also had a generally poorer prognosis. The research is published in the August issue of Archives of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery, one of the JAMA/Archives journals.
As scientific research delves into the processes underlying human disease, doctors are challenged to integrate these new discoveries into patient care. To help bridge the gap between basic science research and clinical practice, a new series on "Pathophysiology in Medicine" begins this month in The American Journal of the Medical Sciences (The AJMS), official journal of the Southern Society for Clinical Investigation.
Aegis Health Group will help Inova Health System, a not-for-profit healthcare system based in northern Virginia, grow market share through its proven business development strategies.
