Lovelace Health System, Inc. has signed a definitive agreement to purchase the assets and operations of the Heart Hospital of New Mexico from MedCath Corporation for $119 million.
The National Hemophilia Foundation has awarded CSL Behring its 2015 Corporate Leadership Award as recognition for the company's longstanding and unwavering commitment to advancing science and improving the care of the bleeding disorders community. The award was accepted by Paul Perreault, CEO and Managing Director, CSL Limited, during the NHF Annual Spring Soiree in New York City on May 21.
From skeletons and biopsies, an international team of scientists was successful in reconstructing a dozen medieval and modern genomes of the leprosy-causing bacteria Mycobacterium leprae.
Scientists have discovered the nutrient, lycopene, which is found in cooked tomatoes, can slow the growth and even kill the cancer cells. Dr Mridula Chopra and colleagues at the University of Portsmouth found that lycopene, which gives tomatoes their red color, intercepts the cancer's ability to make the connections it needs to attach to a healthy blood supply.
Many people have speculated on the evolutionary functions of the human orgasm, but the underlying mechanisms have remained mysterious. In a new paper, a Northwestern University researcher seeks to shed light on how orgasm works in the brain.
