Epilepsy prevalence and incidence is greater than earlier thought in the United States. The latest study shows that one in every 26 people in the United States will develop epilepsy at some point in their life. Experts believe this new revelation calls for more attention and funding for the disease.

Somaxon Pharmaceuticals, Inc. today announced that it is offering to sell up to 4,000,000 shares of its common stock in an underwritten public offering. Brain and spinal-cord injuries typically leave people with permanent impairment because the injured nerve fibers (axons) cannot regrow. A study from Children's Hospital Boston, published in the December 10 issue of the journal Neuron, shows that axons can regenerate vigorously in a mouse model when a gene that suppresses natural growth factors is deleted.
