Decision Resources, one of the world's leading research and advisory firms focusing on pharmaceutical and healthcare issues, finds that over 70 percent of surveyed U.S. physicians indicate there is a high need for diabetes drugs with novel mechanisms of action versus 15 percent who say there is a high need for additional DPP-IV inhibitors.
Drinking coffee could decrease the risk of breast cancer recurring in patients taking the widely used drug Tamoxifen, a study at Lund University in Sweden has found. Patients who took the pill, along with two or more cups of coffee daily, reported less than half the rate of cancer recurrence, compared with their non-coffee drinking, Tamoxifen-taking counterparts.
Johns Hopkins researchers say they have found a specific protein in nearly 100 percent of high-grade meningiomas - the most common form of brain tumor - suggesting a new target for therapies for a cancer that does not respond to current chemotherapy.
Northwestern Memorial Hospital is one of six national participants in a pilot study that will test whether operable lung cancer patients and their families have a smoother care experience and better outcomes by hardwiring data systems to reduce medical error and to reliably adhere to best practice standards.
