Amgen today announced that the Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) of the European Medicines Agency adopted a positive opinion to extend the marketing authorization for Vectibix (panitumumab) to include combination with FOLFIRI (an irinotecan-based chemotherapy) as first-line treatment in adult patients with wild-type RAS metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC).
In a report released this week, the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota Foundation highlights the accomplishments of a collaborative effort to improve the health of underserved populations through the training and use of community health workers, titled Community health workers in Minnesota: Bridging barriers, expanding access, improving health.
Oceana Therapeutics LLC, a privately owned global company focused on commercializing best-in-class specialty therapeutics, today announced it has entered into a definitive agreement for the sale of its operating subsidiary, Oceana Therapeutics, Inc. to Salix Pharmaceuticals, Ltd. of Raleigh, NC.
A Center for Global Development memo offers suggestions for the U.S. to improve its commitment to policies that benefit poor countries after it ranked 17th out of 22 wealthy in the 2009 Commitment to Development Index. Among a set of 20 recommendations, the authors suggest the U.S. "[i]ncrease foreign aid, especially through such vehicles as the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), which gives to relatively well-governed countries, or a global 'Cash on Delivery' fund that would pay countries after making confirmed progress toward agreed-upon outcomes, thereby reducing the proliferation of aid projects," the authors write(Prieto/Roodman).
