Geisinger Medical Center (GMC) was recently designated a National Marrow Donation Program (NMDP) collection site, becoming the only site in the region to collect bone marrow or blood stem cells from willing donors.
Phase Forward, a leading provider of data management solutions for clinical trials and drug safety, today announced that a joint project with customer Merck & Co. has won the 2009 Society for Clinical Data Management (SCDM) Data Driven Innovation Award competition. This annual honor recognizes the year's best advancement in clinical data management technology or service.
"Super bugs," which can cause wide-spread disease and may be resistant to most, if not all, conventional antibiotics, still have their weaknesses. A team of Canadian scientists discovered that specific mixtures of antimicrobial agents presented in lipid (fatty) mixtures can significantly boost the effectiveness of those agents to kill the resistant bacteria.
A potentially breathable, respiratory vaccine in development has been shown to provide long-term protection for non-human primates against the deadly Ebola virus, as reported this week in the online edition of the journal Molecular Pharmaceutics.
