In developing countries, many hospitals have become cemeteries of medical equipment. Several radiology systems, often sent by international aid, may never be used due to the climatic conditions and the instability of electricity networks. In a matter of weeks, they become useless. Besides, the lack of qualified personnel or spare parts rapidly dispels any hope to make them work. Yet, the lack of access to radiology in many developing countries is a serious public health problem, whether for TB screening or the care of road traffic injuries.
Melior Discovery, Inc. announced today the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USTPO) has awarded a Notice of Allowance for a broad patent application covering the Company's use of MLR-1023 for, among other things, the treatment of type II diabetes and obesity. The patent will cover use of MLR-1023 for the treatment of type II diabetes, obesity and metabolic syndrome, including its use in combination with other compounds and as a component in other drugs.

Cell Therapeutics, Inc. ("CTI") announced today that Ruth Pettengell, M.D. of St. George's Hospital, University of London during a session at the 2009 American Society of Hematology ("ASH") Annual Meeting updated results from the pivotal phase III EXTEND (PIX 301) clinical trial of pixantrone (the "PIX 301 EXTEND trial") in relapsed or refractory, aggressive non-Hodgkin's lymphoma ("NHL") patients who have failed 2 or more prior therapies.
Scientists have demonstrated a new way to assess the potentially damaging effects of prenatal drug exposure-a technique that could also be used to monitor a fetus's response to therapeutic drugs-using sophisticated, noninvasive medical imaging tools.
