A discovery by a team of researchers led by a Syracuse University physicist sheds new light on how the vision process is initiated. For almost 50 years, scientists have believed that light signals could not be initiated unless special light-receptor molecules in the retinal cells first changed their shape in a process called isomerization.
Scientists at the Institut Pasteur and Inserm have successfully increased the infiltration of immune cells into tumors, thus inducing the immune system to block tumor growth. In an article published in Nature Immunology, the scientists show that, in combination with existing immunotherapies, this process efficiently destroys cancer cells.
In competitive runners, a brief, high-intensity run doesn't cause the same kinds of fatigue-related changes in running kinematics and shock absorption as longer training runs, reports a recent issue of The Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research, official research journal of the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
"Ensuring availability of family planning services and their acceptability to every woman, man and to young people, would improve the health of mothers and children in Africa, besides saving health care systems unnecessary expenditure, according to Dr. Babatunde Osotimehin, executive director of the U.N. Population Fund (UNFPA)," who spoke at a maternal health event on the sidelines of the African Union summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on Monday, PANA/AfriqueJet reports.
