Scientists in the UK have discovered new evidence as to why obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) runs in families.
The WHO on Friday reported on a rising number of H1N1 (swine flu) cases in China and Japan, Reuters/Washington Post reports. "In China, after an earlier wave of mixed influenza activity (seasonal H3N2 and pandemic H1N1), pandemic H1N1 influenza activity now predominates and is increasing," the agency said. "Sharp increases in pandemic flu infections continue to be reported throughout Japan, particularly on the northern island," the news service writes (Nebehay, 11/6).
ImThera Medical, Inc. has received Ethics Committee clearance to begin human clinical trials in Belgium. The trials will include ImThera's Targeted Hypoglossal Neurostimulation (THN) Sleep Therapy to treat Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). Along with the clinical trial approvals, ImThera has received ISO 13485 certification of its quality system as a pre-requisite for the future CE mark application for European commercialization of medical products.
Michigan State University researchers, with the help of a groundbreaking medical device, are starting a clinical trial in Africa they hope will provide relief for the hundreds of thousands of children who survive cerebral malaria but are left stricken with epilepsy or other neurologic disorders.
