Colorectal cancer is the second highest cause of cancer death in the United States, expected to claim the lives of an estimated 49,190 people in 2016. The Affordable Care Act aimed to increase access to CRC screening by not holding patients responsible for all costs of the procedure, yet current Medicare insurance beneficiaries lacking supplemental insurance may not be able to afford colon cancer screening and treatment.
Genetic Analysis, a leading Microbiome MDx specialist, today announced the publication of a new study in the peer-reviewed journal Digestive Disease and Sciences showing the results of using its GA-map Dysbiosis Test for identifying IBS patients who respond to the FODMAP diet and thus receive symptom relief.
Research has found that individuals with alcohol and drug dependencies have a greater occurrence of injuries, hypertension, HIV, hepatitis, acid-related peptic disorders, liver cirrhosis, depression, anxiety disorders, and major psychoses.
Ann Arbor-based Altarum Institute has been awarded a grant of $19,619,990 by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to serve as the lead agent in establishing Michigan's health information technology regional extension center, the Michigan Center for Effective IT Adoption (M-CEITA, www.mceita.org). The grant will be administered through the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology and managed and sponsored by Altarum. It is expected to create over 100 new jobs in Michigan.
Cornerstone Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a leader in cancer metabolism-based therapeutics, today announced encouraging results of a preclinical toxicity study of azide drug-loaded Emulsiphan nano emulsions conducted with the National Cancer Institute (NCI) under a Collaboration Agreement. Emulsiphan is Cornerstone's proprietary nanoparticle drug delivery system.
