A new study published in the Journal for Healthcare Quality revealed that nursing resources vary significantly across different types of hospitals that care for children, and this has significant implications for quality and safety in pediatric medical care.
Columbia University's imaging software that facilitates 3-D lung tumor segmentation, licensed to Varian Medical Systems, has been incorporated into the Smart Segmentation module of Varian's Eclipse treatment planning system and has received FDA 510k clearance.
Spinal cord disorders like spina bifida arise during early development when future spinal cord cells growing in a flat layer fail to roll up into a tube. In the Dec. 6 issue of Nature Cell Biology, researchers from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine team with colleagues at the University of California, Berkeley to report a never-before known link between protein transport and mouse spinal cord development, a discovery that opens new doors for research on all spinal defects.
New Jersey Governor First Spouse Mary Pat Christie was joined by several other First Spouses from across the country in sponsoring the "Light the Way" event on March 21, 2011 to increase awareness of, and encourage support for, the rapidly advancing area of Down syndrome cognitive research.

Highlighted in the journal Obesity, the study found that several genes that promote obesity may also result in inferior weight loss outcomes after gastric bypass surgery.
