As the world's very first test tube baby celebrates her thirtieth birthday experts are warning that the growth of 'reproductive tourism' is becoming an increasing problem which is putting women and babies at risk.
The world's biggest study offering healthy eating and exercise advice to pregnant women who are overweight or obese has shown a significant reduction in the number of babies born over 4kg (8.8 pounds) in weight.
The new government of President Jacob Zuma seems to have a clearer-eyed view of the [HIV/AIDS] problem, its remedies and the need to improve the overall health care system" in South Africa, according to a New York Times editorial. "Fixing what's broken will not be easy, but we are encouraged by signs of a commitment to do so," the newspaper writes, pointing to health minister Aaron Motsoaledi's acceptance of last week's Lancet examination of South Africa's health system.
Countries should legally recognize commercial sex work in criminal and labor laws to effectively control the spread of HIV among sex workers and the general population, researchers said at the XVI International AIDS Conference in Toronto, the Toronto Star reports.
