University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston researchers have identified a promising new target in the battle against colorectal cancer - a biochemical pathway critical to the spread of tumors to new locations in the body.
Findings from an analysis that included more than 200,000 patients who underwent common surgical procedures suggests that the optimal length of opioid pain prescriptions is four to nine days for general surgery procedures, four to 13 days for women's health procedures, and six to15 days for musculoskeletal procedures, according to a study published by JAMA Surgery.
A research group led by Prof. Markus Gerhard of the Technical University of Munich and Assistant Professor Dr. Bernhard B. Singer of the Institute for Anatomy at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Duisburg-Essen at Essen University Medical Centre has discovered a completely new approach to preventing or treating infections with this bacterium as well as secondary complications.
The Canadian Gene Cure Foundation, in partnership with the Canadian Institutes of Health Research through its Institute of Genetics, is pleased to announce the awarding of a $90,000 Champions of Genetics: Building the Next Generation Grant to Dr. Faraz Farooq, a Scientist at the Children Hospital of Eastern Ontario Research Institute.
Cervical cancer rates can be greatly reduced through preventive measures against the human papillomavirus along with proactive cancer screening. Japan may be showing how ignoring that knowledge could prove hazardous, as it is the only advanced economy in which the cervical cancer rate is increasing. New research adds further nuance to this situation.
