The Research Foundation of SUNY, which supports the advancement of education, research and discovery at the State University of New York, today announced it signed a licensing agreement with Biosense Webster Inc. for the rights to an Upstate Medical University innovation that helps locate and treat life-threatening heart arrhythmias.
U.N. humanitarian agencies on Monday said areas of the Libyan capital, Tripoli, "urgently need humanitarian assistance, including medical treatment for injuries caused by the ongoing conflict in the North African country," the U.N. News Centre reports.
Fred's Inc., a leading provider of pharmacy services in the southeast and Cardinal Health, Inc., one of the nation's largest healthcare services companies, today announced a multi-year agreement for Cardinal Health to be the new primary supplier of branded and generic pharmaceutical products to all of Fred's more than 360 in-store pharmacies and EIRIS Health Services in the United States.
When combined with other treatments, the drug cetuximab-which works by slowing or stopping the growth of cancer cells-has been shown to extend survival in certain types of cancer, including metastatic colorectal cancers. Unfortunately, about 40 percent of colorectal cancer patients-specifically those who carry a mutated form of a gene called KRAS-do not respond to the drug. Researchers at Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia, however, have been working on a way to overcome this resistance to cetuximab by unleashing a second cetuximab driven mechanism using a novel drug called ARI-4175.
