Moldova's early actions to fight HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis are slowing the rise of the country's dual tuberculosis and AIDS epidemics, the World Bank reports.
Radiation oncology researchers have revised the system used by doctors since the 1990s to determine the prognosis of people with glioblastoma, which is the most devastating of malignant brain tumors.
Respiratory movement during radiotherapy makes it difficult to hit the right treatment target and this in turn can lead to an under-dose of radiation to the tumour, or a potentially toxic over-dose to the surrounding healthy tissue. Getting this right is a real challenge for the radiotherapist, but new techniques are helping to deliver the correct dose to the right place, the 31st conference of the European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology (ESTRO 31) will hear today.
It appears that warnings regarding dangers of smoking appear to be having an effect with the UK placed in 22nd position in a world league of highest cancer rates. Figures show that for men, 280 cases per 100,000 people, is 33rd in the world, with France the highest. The rate for British women, however, is 260.5 per 100,000 – the world's 12th highest, with Denmark top. The UK breast cancer rate for women, which is just over 89, ranks 11th.
Parents, if you have post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), don't keep it from your kids. Talk to them. That's the message this June, PTSD Awareness Month, from Tom Babayan, a licensed marriage and family therapist at UCLA.
